Everyone wants beautiful portraits of their children, but with other photographers the process is often not an enjoyable experience. So often, the day is dreaded, children are warned to be on their best behavior, and the resulting photographs reflect the stress experienced by children and parents alike. I prefer to conduct my sessions in your family home or in a place where you and your children are familiar and comfortable such as a local park because then it is easier to relax and be yourselves. This will result in the very best possible portraits.
One of the benefits of my 20+ years experience is that I know how to create and conduct a photo session that runs smoothly, efficiently and is enjoyable for everyone, especially the children– I always get a good smile and show children at their very best. These captured moments of beloved children as they grow and change and reach important milestones give back a lifetime of joy for the whole family. This will result in the very best possible portraits.
The session can be done with natural light in your home or I may add some simple portable studio lighting if necessary. I will strive to use your home or the location of your choosing as the backdrop of the portraits, however I do have a portable studio with backdrops and studio lighting that I am able to set up if there is available space. Sessions usually last anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. I will never hurry you along and we can take all the time needed to be sure that we get a good sampling of portraits for you to choose from. Newborns and young babies often need the most time as they will often require extra care and gentle transitions.
If there are important items that you would like to have included in the portrait such as a special blanket or toy, please have them ready and prepared prior to the session.
Clothing
When planning for your session, clothing should be considered and coordinated carefully. Your clothing choices will be a critical determining factor in the final outcome of your portraits. Clothing should be of neutral colors and have a timeless feel to them. You should avoid logos and loud bright colors as these do not photograph well and will draw attention away from the subject. Newborns and babies photograph best in their own skin. A simple diaper cover or less will result in the best portrait of your new baby. If more than one person will be included in the session, clothing tones and styles should match to be sure that attention is not drawn to the clothing instead of the subjects. The main focus of the portrait should be the person being photographed and not what they are wearing. Choose color coordinated, non distracting outfits: SEE EXAMPLES BELOW
We will discuss any questions or ideas during your consultation call when we schedule your photo session.
Session Fees
All session fees include a full session from 1 – 3 hours at the location of your choice (within 30 miles of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area unless otherwise specified), minor retouching on all finished portraits, session planning and style consultation, and personal photo slideshow.
The Ryan Rampton Photography experience is designed to obtain a collection of portraits to document this time in your child’s life. Sessions are scheduled with enough time to really focus on your child or children and to come away with a wonderful variety perfect for keepsake albums, printed coffee table books, and wall collections.
Child Portrait Session ~ $100
This session focuses on your newborn, baby, child or teen. The session fee covers up to 3 siblings. $25 for each additional family member. Because of the intensive nature of the newborn sessions, they can include parents and siblings with the baby but the focus will always be on the newborn. Session fee includes $50 print credit at the time of your order.
Please Note: Ryan does his best to fit newborns into his schedule as soon as possible after they are born. The sweetest and most precious newborn photos are of curling, sleeping newborns. During the first two weeks after your baby’s birth, they will usually retain some of the natural curl from before they were born. Newly born babies are also usually more sleepy and pliable for the most desired poses. For these reasons, please call to book your newborn session as early as possible. It is best to secure your session prior to your baby’s birth.
Maternity/Newborn Session ~ $200
The maternity newborn package includes two portrait sessions; your maternity session (scheduled during the last trimester of pregnancy) as well as your newborn session (scheduled before your new baby is 4 weeks of age). Maternity sessions generally last up to two hours and may include your spouse/partner and children. The newborn session is quite extensive, often lasting 3 hours to allow plenty of time for eating, changing, and cuddling between photographs. This package includes a $100 print credit toward maternity portraits and 25 custom birth announcements ($59 value).
Keep Them Little Baby Plan ~ $350
The first year of your baby’s life will bring wonderful growth and changes that you will want to remember and treasure forever. What better way than with the Keep Them Little Baby Plan. This plan covers three sessions typically at three of the following stages newborn, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months old.
Definitely our most popular plan. This plan will help you not only to save on session fees, but will also give you access to significantly discounted portrait collections that will save even more on your baby’s portraits. As a member of the baby plan you will receive a 10×20 storyboard (value : $150) after your baby’s one year session. The storyboard will document each age. You will also receive 15% off all regularly priced portrait collections allowing you to save even more on your baby’s portraits.
Viewing Your Portraits & Ordering
Your portraits will be ready for viewing approximately three days following your session. At that time, you will be able to view a slideshow of all the portraits at our studio theater or in your home.
Your slideshow will largely include color portraits but will also include a sampling of black and white portraits as well as some artistic and unique photographs to choose from. Usually people have such a hard time choosing their favorites, and I often hear “how will I ever choose?”. We will help you select the best wall portrait and then decide how best to display the other favorites, whether in a small album, in a collage, or gift packages, depending on your individual needs.
